Frage: Englisch bitte mal schnell überfliegen

Today I would like to tell you about my internship at the DLR. But before I start I want to introduce my structur to you.

First I will talk about the DLR in common, e.g. what they do, where they are and so on.
Then about my own experiences.
And at last how I liked the internship and if I would like to work as a engineer.

I did my internship at the DLR the DLR stands for “Deutsches Zentrum für Luft und Raumfahrt”.
The DLR is Germanys national research centre for aeronautics and space. Approximately 5700 people work for DLR in the divisions: aeronatuics, space, transportation and energy
the center has 29 institutes and facilities at 13 locations in Germany for example in Berlin, Cologne and Hamburg,.But the DLR also has offices outside Germany e.g. in Paris and Washington, D.C.

During my internship I was at the “Institut for Flight system”, which is a subdivision of the aeronataucis.
The main-aim of the institut for flight systems is : to make flying safer quiter and more environment-friendlier for the passengers, but as well for the pilot. Therefore they developed a groundsimulation, where the pilot can practice to fly, but they don´t only use the simulator to practice they also test new things in it.
Like a sidestick. In helicopters the pilot usuallly has a “big stick” in front of him, which he holds with both of his hands. like this. But the sidestick is different, its as the name already says just on the right side and you use it with only one hand. And there is a nother difference, when the pilot flys in a unnormal flightsituation, like to fast, to low or in weird angle- the sidesticks starts vibrating, so that the pilot has to think twice about his actions. I think this is a really good invetion, because it would avoid a lot of flugzeugabstürze.

My job during the internship was to develop a programm, which would show the pilot the accurate position on a map. This was really difficult for me, because I didn`t had any previous knowledge, but the fact that my work would be useful for the DLR motivated me to make an effort. Furthermore I could always ask my tutor, who always took the time to help me and answer my question.. Besides the programming, I also did a lot of other things, my tutor took me for example to presentations of his colleges or I tried to fly in a simulator, but I was a little bit jealous of another intern, because he flew with a real airplane over Braunschweig and after that he was so impressed and happy, that he just smile all the time and told us about his flight.

All in all I really enjoyed my internship, because everyone was really nice to me and I received a good impression of the work of an engineer. But I dont think that this is a futurejob for me, because you need really good skills and interest in math and physics, which i really don`t have.
But I would really recommend this intership to people, who are interested in aeronautics and are good in math and physics, because the DLR makes an effort and cares about their interns.
