Hey Leute! ich muss in Englisch ein Kurzreferat über das Weiße Haus in Washington D.C. machen.

Ich hab` hier mal für euch mein Kurzreferat, was ich heute so irgendwie zusammengeschrieben habe. Nur das Wichtigste...

The White House:

The White House in Washington D.C. is the official home and workplace of the President of the United States of America.

It`s history and the history of Washington D.C. began 1790 when President George Washington declared that the federal governement`s home would be in a district near the river Potomac. Together with city planner Pierre L`Enfant, President Washington chose one site of the river for the new residence.

The first cornerstone was laid in October of 1792. The house was finished in 1800, but Washington never lived in it, because he died in 1799.
The first residents of the White House were President John Adams and his wife Abigail Adams.
Since John Adams, the White House has been the residence of every U.S. President.
The White House is also the only private residence of a head of a state that is open to the public, free of charge.

In 1814 (during the war of 1812), the main building was burnd down by the British, but the reconstruction began almost immediately.
The smoke-stained grey walls were painted white.

The name ``White House``, however, was not used officially untill President Roosevelt had printed it on his paper in 1901. Before, it was known as ``President`s Place``, ``President`s home`` or ``Exicutive Mansion``

The White House also survived another fire in the West Wing in 1929.
