about the D-day
On the 6th June 1944 the biggest invasion from sea found Instead of. The D-Day (codename Operation Overlord) began after nearly 2 years planning and exercises. To make the life easier for the landing troops, paratroopers spring at the night of 5th June 1944 behind the German defence lines (Airborne)BILD to find and destroy important military and tactical position like railway lines BILD, tactical villages BILD or heavy artillery positions BILD, But there where many problems in that night. An example is that many paratroopers unities landed about 40 kilometres from there real application place. AT the early morning at the 6th June were all aims reached and so they make the life easier for the landing troops on the beach . But the price for that job was terrible over 2000 paratroopers died many of them by landing. At the morning of the 6 June 1944 More than 5000 ships (battleships destroyer, light cruisers, heavy cruisers and landing crafts) and nearly 9000 airplanes took part at the invasion. 5000 of them were bomber! At 5 o clock the invasion fleet which comes from England achieved by their application areas, the French mainland and smoked artificial fog. Just over 250,000 men took part at this invasion .At 6:00 o`clock as nearly 5000 heavy bombers of type Boeing B17 BILD trough her bombs against the German positions. The German Positions were called WN `s BILD (pockets of resistance). But much of the bombs and grenades don’t hit their target. The reason was that the coordinates ordered back because they don’t want to hit their own man and their fleet. The other reason was the foggy and bad wheater and the many clothes which are on sky. After this heavy attack the allies think that all WN`s were destroy and that there aren’t any resistance but that false. But many of german attitudes not even hurt. Especially in the section Omaha beach the shells and bomb missed their effect.
Most of them explode somewhere in the French landscape. BILD At 6:30 the biggest invasions begin. The artificial fog patches began to ventilate and the German saw the probably biggest invasion fleet of the history. Because the landing segment was divided very largely the landing zone get in 5 segments GOLD; JUNO; UTAH, Sword and Omaha At the segments Utah, Sword, Juno, and Gold the resistance were small. All Wn`s conquered fast by the allied infantry. But at Omaha beach, begin at 6:30 the hell on earth. The reason was that many German defence attitudes survive the bombardments.
It lasted completely the day to conquer all the German WN`s in Omaha. Particularly at WN 62 BILD the allies has the biggest lose which were in Omaha Beach. Because of the heavy losses of the allied infantry the soldiers call the landing this segment bloody Omaha. More than 3000 men lost there lives. At WN 62 the soldier Hein Severloh fights against the allies infantry with his MG42 and his Karabiner K98.BILD He shot total 12.500 shells as well and with his karabiner over 500. After the war he wrote a book about his experience in the Second World War BUCH. At the evening/ night the Germans defender had to withdraw because the Amies want to encircle them. At the end of this day the Americans control all German WNs.
However, the losses were terribly the Allies lost over 4000 soldiers The German Wehrmacht lost about 2000 Soldiers BILD, 4000 are missing. The most of them get in the allied captivity. So also the Soldier Hein Severloh. Today a memorial remind and a cemetery with buried German and Allies Soldiers who died in the bloody battle by Omaha beach BILDER. A good film who present the hell of Omaha is the film saving private Ryan or in german Der Soldat James Ryan
