The Legend of Dreamcatchers

A long time ago, there was a poor family. They were good persons, who never did anything bad, but in the nights they could not sleep, because they had bad dreams and terrible visions.
The father did not know a way out, so he sat on a field, in one hand a medicinepipe, smoking, and he listened to the whispering of the wind. “Can I help you? ...” “Who is speaking to me?” the father asked. And as he looked around he recognized a big spider which was sitting on a blade of grass. “It was me, who was calling you. I have the answer to your prayers. I want to teach you my medicine.
The trouble in your life is not your fault, because you are a good man. These ghosts around your back, these are bad ghosts, which also destroy your dreams.” While telling this to the father the spider tied two blades of grass together with the help of her cobweb.
“You have to bring me some things, because without them, I cannot help you!”, the spider said. The father went away and on his return he brought all the things the spider wanted to have. First he layd the eaglefeather into the web.
“This feather represents the air and the air’s ghost”, the spider said. “Next, the stone should be brought in the netting. The stone represents the earth’s ghost. After that, please put the shell in the netting, this shell represents the sea’s ghost. At least put the pearlstring in the netting. This pearl was built in the fire and represents the fire’s ghost.
Now, take this Catcher of dreams, with the force from earth,wind,fire and water. Hang it over your bed and you will sleep very well, because peaceful ghosts will come to you and expel the bad ghosts. The bad ghosts will be catches by the netting as long as the first actinism cames and burning the bad ghosts to dead.
Now the family could sleep very well and the only dreams they had were nice and peaceful.
