'We live in an anti-boy culture'

Have you ever had the feeling that nowadays boys have it harder than girls, especially in the aspect of education? A study from 2009 made by a German education institute seem to substantiate that suspicion, describing boys as the "losers" in our education system.

One of the main reasons leading to boys being disadvantaged in school, is that the majority of teachers and authority figures in early school education are female. The apparent lack of male role models in boys' early and easily influenceable years can often lead to an unwillingness to make an effort in performing well in school. That can be seen by the fact that not only the percentage of boys dropping out of school without graduating is much higher than the amount of girls, but it is also proven that more girls attend university after graduating in comparison to their male fellows.

Gender-related societal deficiencies also have a direct impact on the everyday life of both male and female students. Schools everywhere have been strongly influenced by the belief that girls are systematically deprived. Take generalised tests as an objection. Even though girls are being encouraged more actively in school, in general, they still do not perform better in said tests. Inequality never has a positive effect on communities, its only purpose is the division of groups.

Maybe it would be a good start to encourage more men to go to college and work as teachers, since the root of the problem seems to be that from a young age, boys are not surrounded by enough male teachers. We need to erase the stigma that studying and caring about your education is not something boys are supposed to do, so that the discrepancy in schools can be eliminated.
