Hallo ich muss in Englisch zu dem Buch Holes verschiedene Aufgaben lösen jedoch komm ich damit nicht ganz klar weil ich das Buch nicht wirklich verstanden habe. Kann mir da vielleicht jemand helfen ?


Hier die Aufgaben
1. Mark the pasages that go back to the old family history in a special colour. Mark the passages that refer to Stanley‘s past (life before Camp Green Lake/ childhood / life at school) in another colour. You needn‘t mark the present and what happens at Camp Green Lake. This helps you to analyse the novel and quickly find the pasages and quotations.

2. Retell the the story of Stanley‘s great-great-grandmother Elya Yelnats, Myra Menke and Madame Zeroni in your own words.

3. Why was Stanley sent to Camp Green Lake? Why Zero? (5 sentences)

4. In chapter 9 Stanley writes a letter to his mum. A) Explain why Stanley does not write the truth. B) Write Stanley‘s diary entry after the first day.

5. There is a hierarchy between the adults. Characterize it. What is their relationship towards each other and to the boy? Write a text of at least 150 words. Use quotations to prove what you say.

6. Find examples of Mr Sir‘s methods of making the boys respect him. Write 1-2 sentences for each example and name the page.

7. Retell the story of Katherine Barlow in your own words. Do either 2 or 7, not both.

8. Write down the nicknames of the boys in Stanley‘s tent, their real names and their character features. Start like this:

9. Zero is neither silly nor crazy. Several situations demonstrate that he is very clever. Give examples and explain the situations using quotations. Write a text.

10. Zero, Stanley and another person have an old family history that is mentioned. Who is that other person and who are the ancestors?

11. Stanley finds two interesting things in the earth (chapter 10 + 13-14). Describe them and the situation when they were found and explain why they don‘t do him any good.

12. A pun is a play with words (Wortspiel). The boys call their „rec-room“ „wreck-room“. Explain the meaning of both words which sound the same.

13. Imagine Katherine Barlow writes a diary during the summer when Sam fixes and refurbishes (repairs) the schoolhouse. Write her diary entry containing thoughts about her work as a teacher, her relationship to the adult learners, her love of peaches and her relationship towards Sam.
Or: Imagine Sam writes a diary during that time. Write his diary entry containing thoughts about his life and work, his relationship to the people in the village, with nature and with Katherine.
