The Beatles were the greatest band in the sixties, and still remain popular today. The rock group consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, who was the last one to join the group. All members of the band came from Liverpool in England. Their manager was Brian Epstein. The Beatles met him in Star Clup, in Hamburg. In 1963 they had their first number 1 hit “Please, please me”. From this point on their career had become very successful. The newspapers and magazines went wild over the Beatles. The so called “Beatle mania” broke out. After they gave a concert in the US, in 1964, they became popular throughout the world.
7 successful years later, in 1970, the Beatles had made official their break up. The last album of the bend was “Let it be”. They felt, that their individual musical plans were different.
Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney are still alive. John Lennon was shot in 1980. George Harrison died in 2001. When they died the whole world mourned for them, because till that day Millions of people had dreamed, that one day the Beatles would together on stage again. The songs of the Beatles known in the whole world and they were translated into many different languages, e.g. into Russian. The most songs were written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. One of the most popular songs by the Beatles “Yesterday” was published in 1966. Paul McCartney had composed the melody at the piano 3 years before. He called the melody “Scrambled eggs” and first had following text to it: “Scrambled eggs, oh my baby how I love your legs - diddle, diddle – I believe in scrambled eggs.” One morning he got up played the melody and suddenly he found the new words to this song : Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away, I believe in yesterday…” and so on.
Even if the Beatles don’t exist as a band anymore, still many Beatles-CDs are sold.
Last year Paul McCartney gave concerts in Germany and in some other countries. The tickets were quickly sold out.
