Shankar Characterization
The chapter X Gkrz Opknu (or a Lovestory) deals with a important character whose name is Shankar. Shankar is an orphan boy with the age of 17. His favorite food is chappatis and lentils. Since he was born he has a speech defect it is seen on various sentences where he talks nonsense words for instance to the police, where the police man thinks Shankar is ridiculing him. Besides that this main character is very caring and kind, because he offers his bed to Ram and he himself sleeps instead of it one the stone floor and moreover he cooks for Ram and lends him money. Shankar is not childish, because he has no interest in toys. He seems to have an extraordinary memory, since he can draw a person detailed from his mind. Alltough he has a speech defect, the employees of the house are very fond of him. In this chapter Shankar shows a kind of stubbornness, because he does not obey what Ram has said, that he should not go near dogs. Later he gets bitted by a dog and feals weak, because he has rabies and after a time he dies, since his careless mother Swapna does not support him financially for his treatment.
