Analyse "The new Colossus"

Ich muss morgen die Analyse zu dem Gedicht "The new colossus" von Emma Lazarus präsentieren :(
Da ich in Englisch allerdings nicht so wirklich die Leuchte bin und vorallem mit dem Stylistic devices so einige Probleme hab würd ich mich freuen wenn die Englisch-Asse ;)hier einmal drüber gucken würden und mir ein paar Verbesserungvorschläge machen könnten.

Hier meine Analyse:

The New Colossus
"The New Colossus" is a poem written by Emma Lazarus and dedicated in 1883.
The poem is about the differences between the Statue of Liberty and the Colossus of Rhodos and her located place. Furthermore it deals with the millions of immigrants who came to America and Lady Libertys’ appeal for freedom and a good life for everyone.

In the first two lines the poem allude the Colossus of Rhodos and his “conquering limbs”(line1) which sounds very negative.In the following lines the poem describes the positive appereance of the Statue of Liberty and her ambience. It says that she has a “torch” (line 4) in her hand and “mild eyes” (line 7). Moreover is noted that she has the good attribute to welcome everyone who immigrant in the United States (line 7). The final six verses are about the appeal of the Statue of Liberty for freedom and a good life for everyone. She says that she lift her lamp beside the golden door(line 14) for all the poor and homeless people to find a better life and freedom for themselves.

“The new Colossus” is a sonnet and includes 14 verses which are divided into two quatrains and one sestet. The rhyme scheme is an enclosed rhyme in both quatrains and a crossed rhyme in the sestet. The poem is written in an iambic pentameter.

Emma Lazarus wrote “The new Colossus” in an elevated language and uses many stylistic devices. All the alliterations, e.g. “…world-wide welcome…”(line 7) have the functions to emphasizes special words or a whole verse, so that the reader memorized them. The repetition in line 10/11 “…your tired, your poor, your huddled…” is supposed to show the willpower of the Statue of Liberty to welcome everyone with no matter of social class. Another stylistic device Emma Lazarus uses is the image in line 14 “…golden door.”. Golden door sounds very welcoming, so that the reader get a positive feeling by reading the verse. The run-on in line 4/5 connect the first stanza with the second and quick the pace of the poem. The whole poem is written in long sentences and a quick pace.

In my opinion the poem is very significant. It presents the United States as a broad-minded country, where everyone can live his dream.
