Hornby, Nick- About a boy: Development of Marcus

At the beginning of the novel:
- does not understand the world of adults
- does not know much about the significance of relationship
- does not really care about his own and mothers problems
Then his problems get worse:
- bullied at school
- his mothers problems are revealed
- even Nick and Mark do not want to be his "friends" no longer
The reasons for Marcus being bullied:
- clothes, haircut (permanent look out for something to laugh at)
- he sometomes starts singing without reason
- he even does not want to behave like the trendy people at school, who are giving him a hard time
Marcus situation improves:
- he starts to talk to other people about his problems especially to Will
- after his mothers suicide attempt he realizes that he has to help her
- Will helps him to improve his situation at school (shoes, haircut)
At the end of the novel:
- wants to make his own decisions
- gets acquainted with Ellie and falls in love with her
- he is not bullied any longer
- Will realizes that Marcus is not like a child (Marcus defends Will infront of Suzie)
- realizes the differences between him and Ellie and also that he is not really in love with her
- does not think in a childish way about relationships as he did at the beginning; creates his own attituds towards Ellie
