Today The population in Hollywood is about 300.000 people.
Hollywood is world-famous known as the centre of the Us-American
Filmindustry.The name Hollywood means in German “Stechpalmenwald.”
although no “ Stechpalmen” grow there.

History

Hollywood was founded in 1897 when the first cinema in the USA opened in Los Angeles. The town was a small, planned residential town, which was created by Horace Wilcox. Constant sunshine made Hollywood attractive for film producers, who need permanent offer at bright light and various area so it became popular as a movie industrie.
Wilcox wife Daeida called the city Hollywood because she met a woman in a train whose house had called like this. The early film people were nomadic people, which were not welcome to the city dwellers. They showed the actors the cold shoulder and produced signs like" NO dogs, NO actors.”

In 1915-1920 many new film studios were founded: Universal Pictures, Warner Brothers
Until 1930 the film industry was one of the ten most profitable industries of America.
But today they don’t produce as much as years ago in Hollywood. All big Filmstudios moved to other cities except the Paramount Pictures.

most famous theatre in the world.


Two of the most successful film makers:

James Cameron who directed“Titanic”, are with 11 Oscars the most successful film, also famous for “The Blair Witch Project" and “Jurassic Park”
The second one is Roland Emmerich, the director of „Stargate“, „Independence Day“, „Godzilla The Patriot“
