How to write a Summary


Step 1:Read the text slowly and carefully, if necessary more than once

Step 2:Then put the text aside and ask yourself what does the author want to say?
Answer this question in one sentence as to form a clear idea of the subject.

Step 3:Divide the text into adequate sections, the paragraphs will help you to find the main parts

Step 4:Now make a rough draft, listing the authorŽs major ideas in key words or phrases for each section

Step 5:Start your Summary with a heading and a sentence which inform the reader about the text you are summarizing (author, title, source,date+ topic of the text)

Step 6: Fill out your rough draft in your own words so as to achieve a readable, logical and coherent text
