Thinking Putty or Silly Putty

Thinking Putty is a toy based on silicone and boron. It has depending force of different consistencies.

The History:

During the 2nd World War - Japan occupied many areas in the South Pacific,
where rubber trees were common.

Consequently America suffered under a shortage of natural rubber, which is specifically needed for the production of tires and gaskets.

Therefore, the US industry began to look for a natural rubber replacement.

In 1943, Earl Warrick focused on a previous experimen(ted) with compounds of silicon and carbon.

His research on developing a synthetic replacement for rubber gave the allies an advantage in the war.

Although towards (hört sich besser an) the end of the war he couldn`t find no a suitable replacement, he managed to form a (er hat es hinbekommen) bouncy plasticine based on silicone.

Today Thinking Putty is primarily known as a toy.

Sold by various manufacturers, it has many trade names such as Bouncing Putty, Tricky Putty, Potty Putty or Thinking Putty.

The putty is available in different varities, including a putty with colour changing properties through/via heat influence, putty with glitter effects, phosphorescent putty or ferromagnetic putty that responds with super magnets.

Physical properties:

As a so-called non-Newotonian fluid, the putty can change its viscosity, if there is an influence of gravity. If a small force is applied to the putty, like gravity, it will slowly melt. If you form it into a ball, it will bounce off the ground like a ball and if the force is strong enough for example a swing of a hammer, it will shatter into pieces. Compared to starch-based clay, another non-newotonian fluid, the Silly Putty will never dry out and wont become brittle.

Application:

The Thinking Putty is an excellent therapy-plasticine. It serves as an aid to unlearn many unpleasant addictions. The possibilities are very diverse.

In which areas can the intelligent plasticine be used?
  • In physiotherapy
  • In psychotherapy

  • On which diseases/circumstances can the putty be used on as an ease? (als eine Art Erleichterung)

    - After a stroke
    - After surgery or injury of hands
    - children with concentration problems
    - and more

What are the positive aspects of using a putty?

    - Promote the mobility of the fingers, hands and forearm muscles
    - Promote blood circulation (by intensive kneading)
    - Strengthening of the fingers, hands and forearm muscles
    - and much more ...

    Is the putty toxic?

The putty meets the current EU standards EN 71 part 1, 2 and 3, which guarantee the safety of toys.

Intelligent putty is completely non-toxic and harmless. It does not contain latex or wheat connections, hence there are no concerns for people, who are allergic to these substances.
