The feud with England

Around the turn of the millennium Scotland was anything but a strengthened state.
The power of the kings limited itself basically to the Lowlands, the Scottish lowland in the south with the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. In highlands, the mountainous highland in the north, the traditional family associations, the clan still ruled. The tension relation between king, clan boss and nobility should continue up to the end of independent Scotland. Stamping for the Scottish history the centuries of conflict with the neighbour also became England around the supremacy. First the Scots attained her national independence from England under king Robert I. The Bruce in 1314. However, the later kings from the house Stuart endangered this increasingly: They were often to be increased more with it occupied her power within Scotland and to assert themselves against her opponents, to act as something for her country. The life expectancy of the Stuart kings was accordingly low often.
