The novel ``The absolutely true diary of a Part-Time Indian written by Sherman Alexie, published in 2007, is about a boy named Junior Arnold Spirit, who is 14 old and a native American. He is poor and wants to change his life, hence he attends the college of the white Americans to accomplish his dreams.

Native American must live on remote reservations and suffer from poverty and alcohol abuse while Whites are indifferent to their social needs. The main character loves to draw cartoons like the one on Page 174. I describe the pictures. There are tombstones and bottles of alcohol and lonely road and hitchhiker. In the next picture is a piggy bank with one cent inside. In the other pictures the mother hugging her son to keep him home. Mother and son are talking to the dad who is sitting with a can of beer hiding his face on the table.

Arnds reasen for not getting to school are results of being a native American and living on a reservation. Furthermore Junior wakes and funerals are an essential part of native American culture and take longrr whites. Morover the reservation is isolated from the rest of the world on account of this Arnolds is not whit, so no white person wants to give him a ride. Further Arnolds parents are unemployed so there is little money to live on. Furthermore his mom is scared to leave her son to the whites or she fears that he might be beaten by other natives for being a traitor by leaving the reservation. Besides Juniors dad is addicted to alcohol and drowns his sorrow and Arnold feels responsible for him.

The criticises of Alexie is tbat tge Native Americans culture has been erased and is nit taken into acount. To begin with is Alcohol abuse results fron being disconnected from traditions and culture. Moreover Reservation are remote and offer no financial earings. Remoteness leads to unrmplyment, prejudice and racism and unemployment leads to poor living conditions which result in alcohol abuse. On account of alcohol abuse leads to accidents and aggressive behavior and deaths. Furthermore children are confronted with miserable role models and sufferin from abuse. In the novel is poverty often results in poor education.
