Todd Anderson
Todd is a very shy and quiet boy.
In school lessons nobody could get a word out of him. At the beginning of the book he isn’t self-confident, but he becomes more and more accepted. Mr. Keating has given Todd a new sense of life. In his family he is also an outsider, because his parents prefer his brother. His best friend is Neil, his roommate. Neil demands Todd, so he comes out of himself. Because of Neil’s suicide, Todd runs out of the school and cries. Through this action you can see, that Todd can be a sensitive boy. Todd is a main character in the ‘Dead Poets Society” and he is 16 years old.

Jeffrey Anderson
He is the brother of Todd and was the best of year. The parents of Jeffrey and Todd prefer Jeffrey, because of his good conclusion.

Neil Perry
Neil is an open boy, who has got many friends. At the beginning of the story he is very happy and funny, but his father is very strict and forbids him to act. Against his father’s will, he began acting and got the lead of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. For this he even faked the consent of his father and of Mr. Nolan. Mr. Keating is his ‘second father’ in that time and understands him. When his father saw, that Neil acted, he packed his things and wanted to send him to a military school. Because of that he commits suicide. He was an intelligent boy and was excellent at school.

Knox Overstreet
Knox is 16 years old and when he had a meeting at Danburry’s, he fell in love with Chris. To win her heart, he wants to write a poem for her and read it out in front of her class. In the end of it, he wins her heart. He has short hair with curls and an athletic build.

In the group he is a follower. He is the one, who sneaks Mr. Nolan of the club ‘Dead Poets Society’ and of the ‘funny’ teaching lessons of Mr. Keating. This way he becomes unpopular with the others. He can be called a ‘Crawford’ and an ‘egoist’. Like the other boys he is 16 years old.

This boy is the best friend of Meeks. At school he is an average student and isn’t noticeable. His doing hasn’t any impact of the plot.

Is a student, who doesn’t see the reality. He has got his own ‘dream world’ and such strange aims like to have as many girls as possible. In this situation you can see, that he is a childish boy. Later he wants to be called ‘Nuwanda’ and plays the saxophone. He can be called ‘the poem writer’. In the theatre evening he fall in love with Virginia Danburry.

Mr. Gale Nolan
He is the headmaster of Welton Academy. Particularly he puts much use of the four pillars at Welton: ‘traditon’, ‘honour’, ‘discipline’ and ‘excellence’. So he is very tradition-conscious. Nolan is about 60 years old. Many years ago he was an English teacher.

She is the wife of Mr. Nolan and work as a secretary.

Mr. John Keating
Mr. Keating is the new English teacher at Welton, with an extraordinary teaching. He was also a student at this school before, and the co-founder of the ‘Dead Poets Society’. The students call him ‘Captain’. But because of Neil’s suicide he dismissed from school. Mr. Keating is about 30 years old, understanding, helpfully, a little bit crazy and emotionful. His hair is brunette, his eyes are brown and he is medium-sized. In the past he was a ‘Rhodes scholar’.

Chet is the son of Joe and Janette. He is the boyfriend of Chris and a football player in the football team of Ridgeway High School. His build is very athletic and he is very tall.

She is the girlfriend of Chet and has got a sporty figure. She gets a poem from Knox. At the end of the story she has got a new boyfriend: Knox Overstreet.
