Ich wollte fragen, ob jemand sich bitte diesen Text durchlesen und gegebenenfalls korrigieren könnte. Es ist die Zusammenfassung vom ersten Akt der Komödie "Pygmalion" von George Bernard Shaw. Könntet ihr mir auch sagen, ob man das auch versteht, wenn man das Buch nicht gelesen hat?


The comedy Pygmalion by Bernard Shaw is based on the legend Pygmalion wherein a young Cypriot sculptor named Pygmalion create a statue which looks like a real woman. He falls in love with it and prays to Aphrodite which takes pity with him and makes the statue come alive. Bernard Shaw tells the story of Henry Higgins a professor of phonetics and a young girl, Eliza Doolittle.

In the first act some people take cover from the rain in the entrance of St. Paul’s church in Covent Garden. Between these people is a twenty-year old flower-girl, a gentleman and a second man who takes notes all the time. The other people think he is a police spy but are very amazed when he tells them where exactly they came from. The man is Henry Higgins a professor of phonetics who is able to recognize every accent in Britain. He claims he could teach the flower-girl how to speak proper English like a duchess and pass it off at an ambassador’s garden party. The gentleman believes him, he is also a languages professor. He introduces himself as Colonel Pickering. He came to London to visit Henry Higgins. Higgins on his part was going to India to meet Colonel Pickering. Both are happy to meet each other and leave together. The flower-girl remains alone. All the other people have left the cover when the rain stops. A cab arrives. The young man within has searched it for his mother and sister who had also searched cover in the portico of the church. But they have taken the bus, when it has stopped raining. The flower-girl takes the cab and asks the driver to bring her to Buckingham Palace. She will impress the young man with that. When he has gone, she asks the driver to bring her home.
