Nutella

HISTORY

Nutella, the original hazelnut spread, is a combination of roasted hazelnuts, skim milk, and cocoa with a creamy consistency and a chocolate taste with a hint of roasted nut flavor.
Nutella is to Italians what peanut butter is to Americans . Delicious and easy for a quick breakfast or after-school snack , it can be spread on bread, bagels, crackers or croissants and enjoyed with a glass of milk or used as a dip for slices of bananas, apples or strawberries. Substitute Nutella in recipes calling for peanut butter and discover a whole new taste sensation.

Nutella is the number one spread in Europe. In Germany, Nutella is a favorite breakfast spread and in both Italy and France it is a popular after-school snack. Worldwide, it outsells all peanut butter brands combined. Nearly three generations of Europeans have grown up eating Nutella, which was created in the 1940`s by Pietro Ferrero , a pastry maker and founder of the Ferrero Company.

THE SCANDAL: Could Nutella give you CANCER?
How did the big scare start?

A number of international media reports published last week claimed that the processed palm oil used in the production of the hazelnut spread might be carcinogenic (It is a substance that can cause cancer).
The reports moving across social media, claiming that Nutella can give you cancer.

The findings came from a study, released by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) in May 2016, which said that palm oil – an ingredient in Nutella – releases potentially carcinogenic chemicals when refined at high temperatures.
Palm oil, derived from the fruit of palm trees, is used in plenty of food. When refined at around 200 degrees Celsius, the study says, palm oil releases a contaminant known as glycidyl fatty esters (GE) in higher levels than other vegetable oils.
Making Nutella without palm oil would produce an inferior substitute (=minderwertiger Ersatz) for the real product, it would be a step backward.
According to Nutella’s website, palm oil is the best ingredient for guaranteeing (garantieren) its special spreadability (Streichfähigkeit) and, above all, avoiding (vermeiden) the hydrogenation process that would produce otherwise unhealthy trans fats (Fettsäure).

WHAT IS PALM OIL?

Palm fruit oil, generally known as palm oil, is extracted by pressing the pulp of the fruit of the oil palm tree which grows in regions around the equator. This tropical fruit is reddish in colour and is about the size of a large olive.

MY OPINION

NOW - Can Nutella give you cancer?

Palm oil is used in Nutella to give the product its creamy texture, as well as to heighten the flavour of its ingredients, thanks to its properties that enable it to have a neutral aroma and taste after the refining process. As well, it is the best ingredient for giving Nutella the right smoothness, guaranteeing its special spreadability and, above all, avoiding the hydrogenation process that would produce otherwise unhealthy trans fats. Palm fruit oil also helps to maintain the unique taste of Nutella along its whole shelf life, due to its higher stability to oxidation compared to other vegetable oils.

Let me you to know that:

(Verbesserungsvorschläge bzgl. d. Übersetzung erwünscht)

The consumption of Ferrero products is sure and nutella is not cancer-causing.

  • Gesundheit und Sicherheit der Konsumenten haben für Ferrero höchste Priorität.
Health and security of the consumers have top priority for Ferrero.

  • Ferrero wählt seine Rohstoffe sorgfältig nach strengen Qualitätskriterien aus.
Ferrero selects his ingredients carefully after strict quality criterions.

nutella was never taken in any country because of palm oil from the supermarket shelves.
