My presentation is about Dian Fossey, she was a behaviour scientist and a zoologist (means that she worked with animals ) who did a lot of work in investigating endangered animals [species? gemeint sind ja die Arten und nicht die einzelnen Tiere], especially on gorillas in central Africa.
First of all I want to say something about her early life. She was born on 16.1.1932 in San Francisco and was murdered in her camp on 26.12.1985 (53). She had a protected childhood, her mother was a model and her stepfather a banker. At first she wanted to study veterinary medicine, but she had bad marks in natural scientific subjects so she became an occupational therapist and worked in a children`s hospital in Lousville, Kentucky. When she was 31 years old she listened to a speech about gorillas by Dr. Leacky and since then she was fascinated by the animal kingdom, especially by gorillas. Since 1963 she had been observing them [Verlauf in der Vorvergangenheit --> Past Perfect Progressive] over a period of 18 years in their natural environment. That means that she lived with them. With the publication of her book "Gorillas in the Mist", she informed the public about the endangered animals and their behaviour towards her, which made her famous worldwide [Ortsangabe kommt normalerweise ans Ende], because she explained her live with the gorillas very detailed.
Now I want to show you how she was able to communicate(dann kommt ne Folie) with the gorillas. She first determined the population, than she imitated their [es gibt übrigens einen Unterschied zwischen there und their...^^] eating habits, gestics and sounds. After a long period, she was able to stay 45 metres away from them. Later on a 2-years old gorilla male, which she called Digit, allowed her to touch him. Finally she was accepted as a member by the gorilla group. They let her do research [hat keinen Plural] and accepted her among them. Thanks to that she made more new findings about the behaviour than any other scientist could make. As a scientist she certainly delivered many important articles about their social/family structure, behavioural patterns and their communication behaviour. Besides she fought against proachers [das Wort kenne ich nicht, gibt`s das?] and applied for the protection of the nature. After she had been murdered in her camp, many thought that prochers killed her, but that`s improbable, cause they would have been also able to kill her in the forest when she was alone with the gorillas. I think somebody from the government engaged someone, because through her and the National Geographic Campaign against proachers the gorillas couldn`t be exploited as a tourist and entertainment attraction. In addition the government agency evicted her from the land, but through a appointee(Beamter ) she was able to stay longer.
