Where in the USA can one find huge amounts of population of the Asian-American minority?

The Asian-Americans are, beside the African-Americans and Hispanic-Americans, a minority group in the USA.
The census of the year 2002 shows that the USA have (sind mehrere Staaten, also Plural) a total population of 281.2 million people. Therefrom 12 millions (5%) are Asian-Americans.

Most Asian-Americans are resident in California , New York and Hawaii. When they arrived into the USA for the first time, they settled in California because there was gold discovered in 1848. Many of the immigrants worked for the gold seekers. They also worked in goldmines, in the lumber industry, in fisheries and canneries and also on farms. But mainly they worked on the transcontiental railroad. More than about 15,000 Chinese had been employed for these railroad jobs.

Now there are five million Asian-Americans, who live in California. Basically they can be found in Los Angeles (1.686 ml) and in San Francisco (970,000 th.). In Los Angeles the Asian-Americans had to live in those places, where no one else wanted to stay. By reason of apartheid of the Americans and Asians some places developed to "China towns". In those towns they built up their own shops, many restaurants and temples.
All in all the federal states with the highest amounts of Asian-American population are California(5 mil.), New York and Hawaii. The rest of them are scattered all over the USA. (`absent-minded` heißt zerstreut im Sinne von `fahrig` oder `geistesabwesend`;)
