Definition
Europa is one of the seven Continents of the World.
Actually it is just the western fifth of the Eurasian landmass. Although europe is seen as a subcontinent which combines with Asia to the Continent Eurasia, it is treated as an own continent.
ThatŽs why Europe relates also to historical, cultural ,political and economic aspects.

Name
-The name Europe was coined by the Greek mythology and means the woman with the far view.
-Europa was called the King AgendorŽs daughter.
-Kind Agendor ruled times ago the country Phoenicia, which was seperated from Greek by the Mediterranean Sea.
-Zeus The Godfather of god wanted to kidnap Europe and thatŽs why he swam through the sea to get to her.
-There he converted to a bull and kidnapped europe to get to Greek, where he converted again to young boy.
-Then he said to her: Europe, your name will be immortal for all time. So thatŽs a very old saga.

Georgraphy
Europe has against Asia no clearly borders. Because of that europeŽs border is a question which can be answered by an social agreement.
Modern geographers generally describe the Ural Mountains, the Ural River, part of the Caspian Sea, and the Caucasus Mountains as forming the main boundary between Europe and Asia.

Language
In europe lives a lot of different races together. A reason why on our continent are spoken 86 Languages. These 86 Languages are devided into 4 Languagesgroups.

Slavic people (35 %) Polish, Czechs and Slovaks
Romance people (25%) French, Italien, Spanish, Protuguese
Germanic people (30 %) Germans, english, Scandinavian, dutch,
Celtic and finnish people (10%) fnnis, shottish, irish, Estonians, lappish, welsh

So much langueges canŽt nobody learn but luckily there is WOLRLANGUAGE: Enlgish!
With English you can talk in most of the EarthŽs states.

Religion
75 % of the europeans are christians ( catholic, protestant, orthodox).
8 % are muslims, , most of them live in the european part of russsia, also in parts of turkyie, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania ,France, Germany ,the UK and Italien.

Less than 1 % of the european population are Jews and also Other Religons (Hinduism, Buddhism)

Nearly 17 % of europeans are undenominational, especially in countries like Estonia, Czechia, , Netherlands, Russia and the east part of Germany.

Based on the European Values Study a third of the europeans are undenominational and convinced and atheists.


Education and Culture
All States of Europe get a school attendance which begins with the age of 6/7 and finish with 16. The primary school takes in most of the counitries from four till eight years.
After that it continues with a secondery school, which also can has different types of school. The illiteracy rate is very low because of the different furtherances of education system. A lot of countries has also Highschools and Universities with their special subject area.

Sculpting, Painting, litertature, architecture and music are very tradition in europe.
A great number of cities , for example Paris, Rom, Wien Berlin, Moskau are refered to culture centres otherwiese they own important theaters, musees, orchester and more important facilities


Cities and Metropolis
Lissabon was one of the first cosmopolitan metropolis of the word. It has been a great centre of a colonial empire. Even at 1950 there were 4 european towns, which belonged to the 20 biggest towns of the world. These 4 towns were London, Paris, Milan and Naples.
At the 20th century cities from developing countries like Mexiko or Sáo Paulo catched up with the total population.

1945 - 1959
A peaceful Europe – the beginning of the collaboration

The EU was formed with the ultimate ambition to finish the bloody war.( second world war)
From 1950 the european community wanted to combine the european countries to get a peaceful europe.
The Members were: Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Luxemburg and Netherlands.
In 1950 there was also the cold war between east and west germany.
1957 was built the common market (European economic Community) with the contract of rome

1960 -1969
The wild 60ies – a time of economic growth

At the sixties a youth culture developed with the Beatles and it was the beginning of a culture revultion
Based on abolished custom duties at the EU countries - the economy was fine.
1968 was famous beacause of the student riots in Paris, and a lot of changes with the society.

1970 - 1979

A growing commutiy – the first enlargement

Denmark, Irland and the United kingdom joined to the EU at 1973. So that there were 9 countries at the EU.
In 1973 there was the war between arabia and isreal, which leads to energy and economic crises in Europe.
In 1975 the dictatorship in Europe finished with the death of general Franco in Spain
1979 it was possiple to vote a member of the european parliament


1980-1989

Fall of the Berlin Wall - The european face changed

1981 greek became the tenth eu member and Potugal integrated also 5 years later
1986 the european file was. Signed, this contract was the base of a six year programm to solve the barrier to trade ober the european internal border-> the reason why the european single market was created
1989 The border between east and west germany opened after 28 years. Both countries were united again.

1990-1999
Europe without borders
1993 The single markt finished with the 4 liberties of the common market
(the freedom of the transfer of goods, services ,capital and individuals across the borders of the member states)

11.September 2001 airplanes were kifnapped and managed to fly into the world trade center. That was the beginnig of the war with terrorism
Thats why the EU concentrated abut their collaboration against the crime fighting
2004 ten new countries commited to the EU and the european east west conflict removed.
A lot of People think that itŽs tim for an european constitution.
So the discussion about the european future goes on.
