The short story "An American in New York" deals with
the real New York and its big social and economical problems.
American Indians get
discriminated by the government and have it hard to find their identity. They don`t get
accepted as Indians and don`t feel like Americans either. Although there`s a big cultural mix
in New York, the government won`t let them become integrated. Another big problem of
New York would be the environmental issue. The big garbage problem is not only endangering the environment but also the health of society.
