In the old days quilts were made.
They served as warm bedcovers. During this time the tasks of caring for their homes and family filled up many hours for women. Most of them had little leisure time. They could not express their creativity. Many of them channeled their inventive talent and imagination into quiltmaking. Hundreds of hours were spent composing quilts from bits of fabrics. The makers had accumulated the bits of fabric and kept them in scrap bags. One piece might be from a favourite dress. Another piece might be form child`s bonnet. They were reminders of the past. It was in the past that these pieces were worn. A twentieht-century writer (she writes on quilts) quotes her great-grandmother. The great-grandmother said, "My whole life is in that quilt. It scares me sometimes when I look at it. All my joys and all my sorrows are stitched into those little pieces."
