The Second World War ended with the capitulation of Germany and Japan in 1945. About 1,7 billion people of 61 nationalities were involved in the fights in Europe, East Asia, Southeast Asia, North Africa and the Pacific Islands. At the end of the Second World War the German used rockets for the first time ever to attack England. (‚to attack’ hier nur wenn sie das Land Enland angegriffen haben, wenn sie die Englaender in einem anderen Land angegriffen haben lass ‚against’ stehen) Because of the bad situation of the war the resistance inside of Germany grew. It reached its climax when Hitler was affected (? Was meinst du? Schau mal affected im woerterbuch nach!) on (the wird gesprochen, aber nicht geschrieben!) 20th July 1944. After that, every person with a little common sense realised Germany had lost the war, but Hitler appealed for the “Volkssturm”. There, men between 16 and 60 years were taught how to use certain weapons and German cities were now forts which had to be defended at all times. In the last month of the war, the Allies began to destroy everything in the bigger cities like Dresden, Hamburg or Frankfurt and the German troops in Italy capitulated. After this Hitler committed suicide in Berlin on 30th April (Welches jahr?). This sealed Germany’s loss of the war and at the same time the “NS-Terror regime” ended. The war in Europe ended when Germany capitulated on 7th and 8th May 1945. The last part of the Second World War were the atomic bombs in Japan. After Japan put up a fight instead of agreeing to capitulate, America decided to use a horrible weapon: The atomic bomb. On 6th and 9th August 1945 they dropped two of them on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. 122000 people died and 100000 were hurt. Many more died later of radiation poisoning. Japan capitulated on 2nd September 1945. After the Second World War there was a peace conference, called “Potsdamer Konferenz”in August 1945. Here, a lot of important decisions were made. One example is the splitting in occupied zones like a Russian, English, or a French zone. Another decision was that Germany has to stay an economic unit. At the end of the Second World War nearly everything was destroyed. About 55 Million people had died, 35 Million people had disappeared and 3 Million are missing up until today. Furthermore 6 Million Jews were killed in concentration camps other 30 Million dead were innocent people. (verstehe nicht ganz was du damit sagen willst. Formuliers am besten nochmal um!) About 1500 Billion US-Dollar were spend on the war. 21% of that from the USA, 20% from Great Britain, 18% from Germany and 13% from the USSR. The Second World War left a sight of destruction and elimination like it had never happened before. Another big problem was starvation. Many people lost their families and (ich glaube hier hast du was vergessen). The play “An Inspector Calls” was written in 1945, which was just at the end of the Second World War. The play is set in 1912, just before the First World War so that Priestley could get his message across more clearly.
