Dear Diary,

today i was finally having my Ceremony of twelve. We sat in the front of the Auditorium,
right in front of the stage the stage. First Chief Elder held a speech. She described this year’s group and its variety of personalities, through she singled no one out by name. I thought it was funny when I heard things about persons that I know well. But I heard nothing that recognized(was meinst du mit recognized`? vllt . surprised oder represented ?) me, that was really disappointing. Then the first number (one), who was a girl called Madeline, had to go on the stage and got her Assignment. I was glad that I didn’t got assignments as Fish Hatchery Attendant, but I was happy for Madeline and congratulated her. My friend Asher was number four and was very nervous. I had time, because I was number nineteen. He got the Assignment of Assistant Director of Recreation, that’s a good job with honor. I hoped to get a good job with honor, too, but I had no idea what assignment I would get. The Assignments continued and a few of my friends got a job as a doctor, engineer, law and justice or birthmothers. Then it was my friend Fiona’s turn, but strangely enough she wasn’t nervous. She is a calm and gentle girl, which I like. My excitement increased with every step she went onto the stage, because she was number 18 and the next was me.
Fiona got the important assignment of Caretaker of the Old. I got ready to stand up to go on stage but held in to wait for Fiona coming back to her seat, and then I was calm. I would currently stand up, but then the voice said: “Twenty, Pierre”. I thanked stunned that she skipped me. I was confused and was afraid at the same time and I thanked she had made a mistake. I didn’t hear what assignment Pierre received; what I could only hear was number twenty-one, twenty-two. I was confused and I couldn’t think clearly. Had I forgotten my number? Maybe I was number twenty-five, but that couldn’t be possible , I sat on the seat number nineteen. My group leader looked worried at me and I wished that I didn’t exist or disappeared. I asked myself a thousand times what I had done wrong?
But then when the last number was called out, the Chief Elder apologized by the community and by me. She invited me to come on stage. My feet felt weighted and clumsy, but I went to her. She placed her arms on my shoulders and said that I have not been assigned. I almost started to cry. But then she said that I was chosen. She told me that I was the next Receiver of Memory, but I didn’t understand that and the rest of the community, neither. She explained that a Receiver of Money is the most honored job and the receiver is alone and apart. I felt agitated and sick. She continued and said that I had all qualities a Receiver must have. Intelligence, Integrity, Courage, wisdom and the Capacity to See Beyond. I thanked that I wasn’t the right one, she have to confound me, but then I remembered. The thing that had happened with the apple, it changed. She told me that the training required involved pain. Then when she spoke to end, she left the stage. Everyone whispered my name and looked at me, but they accepted me. The Ceremony ended.
I had no idea what would come next or what my selection meant. I am proud and gratitude, but I’m also afraid. My parents are proud too, but I think they’re afraid too, because they haven’t heard something about the job. I am expensive for tomorrow and I write to you tomorrow evening… das war so das gröbste ..aber was solld er letzte satz heissem? Ich binteuer für morgen?!?
