Hallo, kann bitte jemand mein Englisch Aufsatz zum Thema Filmkritik: Little Big Man korrektur lesen und mir evtl. The film “Little Big Man” is told in flashback, as the 120 year old Jack Crabb is interviewed by a young historian. It is a film, in which it has the viewer laughing one moment, bitterly sweeping the next an then angry and wistful in turns, which means that it is based on a lot of genres: Drama, western and historical on the one hand and comedy on the other. Jack`s story is collection of anecdotes from the time when he was kidnapped by Indians and raised as one of their children, to then be thrown back into the white civilisation. When Jack was a little boy, most of his family were mowed down by a group of renegade Indians, leaving only Jack and his older sister as survivors. Later on, a member of an Indian tribe notices the children, and takes them away to be taken care of by the tribe. One day his sister escapes, leaving Jack behind, who grows up with the Indians, always under the fatherly guidance of Old Lodge Skins. Some years later he is about to be killed in a battle against white men when he renounces his Indian background in order to save himself. Jack is taken in by a pastor and his wife, who is willing to introduce him to the pleasure of sex. After leaving the family he goes into business and becomes a gunfighter. At the same time he gets to know with Wild Bill Hickok and marries a Swedish wife. Following the advice of General Custer, he moves West. During this trip, his wife is kidnapped by Indians and Jack, who is searching for her, joins Custer`s Cavalry as a scout to facilitate his search. At an attack on the Indian village where he once lived, Jack deserts his unit and falls in love with an Indian woman. They decide to travel to a reservation headed by Old Lodge Skins, which is suddenly attacked by Custer. Only Jack and Old Lodge Skins survive this brutal attack. Jack tries to take revenge on Custer and sneaks into the general`s tent, but Custer`s vulnerability causes Jack to falter, and he wanders off. Later he meets up with Custer, who hires him as a scout and despite Jack`s advice, Custer orders the attack on Little Bighorn – the rest is history. The film ends with Old Lodge Skins intention to die. The tone of this movie is absolutely interesting: On the one hand there are quiet a few violent scenes and tragic moments – such as the mentioned brutally massacre of women and children orchestrated by Custer`s men – but on the other hand much of the movie is comedy. Espacially Jack`s life with the Natives involves many amusing parts of comedy. There is one Native, who appears to be a Native version of the gay man. Further humorous scenes are Jacks reaction after his first shot with a gun and the behavior of the pastors wife, who should mouths the language of the bible but appears to be sexual orientated. However, the funniest sequence is the one of Old Lodge Skins death, in which he guesses it is time for him to die and therefore decides to move to the top of a hill. Arrived at the peak, he lies down, closes his eyes and waits. Nothing happens though, until it begins to rain. As he realises that he is still alive, he concludes to wait for better weather and then “try it again”. Nevertheless the film is based on historical facts and includes biographical genres. So is Wild Bill Hickok as well as General Custer a historical figure and Hickok was in fact killed while playing poker in a saloon. Furthermore the cruel massacre of women and children organised by Custer really happens even if it doesn`t portray the true procedure. Finally the “Battle of the Little Bighorn” was indeed the most famous action of the Indian Wars and Custer himself was truly killed during this fight. In conclusion I would say that Little Big Man is an excellent film, perhaps it is the best Western made around the 1970`s. It comprises a lot of different genres, from western via drama up to comedy and the switches between the outrageous slapstick to cutesy sex and finally to murderous tragedy are masterfully handled. Therefore the film was absolute correctly nominated for quite a few awards. Viewing "Little Big Man" two or three times is definitive no ignomy. |
