Today I would like to tell you something about Andrew Lloyd Webber.
I have chosen this topic because I have played 2 Songs from him on my accordion and I was interested in this man who wrote these songs.
First I would like to tell you something about this man.
Andrew Lloyd Webber was born on the 22 March 1948 in London.
He’s an English composer and he has composed a lot of different Musicals and the soundtrack for 2 Films.
He’s the son of from William Southcombe Lloyd Webber. He was a Professor for theory and composition at Royal College of Music. His mother Jean taught music Lessons. Andrew’s brother Julian Lloyd Webber is a well-known cellist. So as you can see here the Family of Andrew is very musically. So it isn’t surprising when I tell you, that music has always been a part of his life. Still as he was little he showed his talent. He published his first suite of six pieces at the age of 9.
Another fascinating point was for me as I read that he couldn’t stand the noises other children’s make. He always wanted to play his own melodies not the tunes from the others.
So Andrew composed his first musical at the age of 20. It called “The likes of us:”
The three musicals Cats, Starlight Express and Jesus Christ Superstar were the three longest running musicals in British history. So he was also the first person to have a trio running in London and New York.
In 1992 Andrew Lloyd Webber was knighted he was called: “Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber”
And in the year1997 he was knighted again. His name was from now on “The baron Lloyd Webber” He is a life- peer.
The Queen likes Andrew because…..
So he calls him Musical-King.
He got many awards for example: 1 Oscar, 1 Golden Globe, 3 Grammy Awards.
But now I wanted to talk about one Musical of him: Starlight Express
